Question -Very Late :b-

I remember being confused about the pip's convict appearing in the bar randomly. When our group was talking about it, it became clear to me; ( rather Mrs. Gilman told us ) this convict escaped the prison to give money to Pip, for being nice to Pip's convict. It makes more sense to me, but why would pip's convict give so much money to him? was it towards Pip's apprenticing to Joe? I think I'll find out when I read further into it.
